Happy Birthday to Us, First News Entry

Happy Birthday to Us

The site is four years old today! Time sure goes by fast, eh? Four years ago, this site began its life as a Geocities Homestead maintained solely by Mike Newman. Now, over 12,000 MIDIs -and over two and a half million hits- later, here we are. Who would have thought that the tiny little site in the wrong neighbourhood, would have grown into this, a site with music from more than 20 game systems, countless games, a chat room, forums, eight staff members, and, of course, a band of wonderful visitors? We thank you for coming! May the fates of the Video Game World provide us all with enough quarters and continues to last at least another four.

First News Entry

This is my first news entry for the site. I've only been here two and a half years, I figured I had better try it out eventually... Maybe I should do this more often?

VGMusic Store Changes, Staff Status, Email Questions

VGMusic Store Changes

If you visited the store in the past day or so, you'll have noticed a few changes. There's a new Game Music section with links to mostly Squaresoft Music CDs. This is because we have a new affiliate, AnimeNation .

Staff Status

Here's a rundown on our current status, as I know it (these are listed by nickname as opposed to real name):

  • Powerlord - Has free time to work scripts, but limited internet connection limits actually being productive, needs to look for a new job.
  • Peach - Requested time off to concentrate on Graal (Peach is the Graal Police Chief).
  • Mike Newman - Full time student. Still handles the site finances in a timely fashion.
  • Thirty-ninester - Full time job, works with new staff members Mark Jansen, Pong64, and The Jade Emperor.
  • Kalrac - Student, not sure if full time or not. Monitors the forums and FAQ.
  • MarkJansen, Pong64, Jade - Working together on reducing the size of new-files and fixing errors in the archive. All have fairly full schedules outside of the site.
  • Braxus - Full time student. Currently working on a new design for the archive, but also has his own site called GMN.

Email Question

Lately I haven't been responding to questions about the archive that I've gotten by email. This is because almost every message I get is already answered in the FAQ. For those of you who don't know what FAQ means, it's short for Frequently Asked Questions.

On a similar subject, those of you who want to request music should try the Wishlists.

New staff member

New staff member

As many of you already know, The Jade Emperor (jade_emperor@vgmusic.com) was hired on October 16th to help update the archive. Jade has been a part of the VGMusic community for almost two years now, and is a talented sequencer. Hopefully with his help we'll be able to cut the new files directory down to a reasonable size.

Email Change, Where has everyone gone?

Email Change

Just to let you all know, my email address has changed to thirty_ninester@vgmusic.com. My old address 39ster@vgmusic.com will still work though, but it is only a redirect.

Where has everyone gone?

All the staff are still around.....somewhere, probably busy with jobs or school. As for me I now have a job working at an electrical store for around 30 hours a week. so it looks I won't have as much time now for the site either, but I'll still be around.
