Trivia Poll
Trivia Poll
I have made a poll so that people can give their input about what times of day are best for people to
play trivia. Please only answer the poll if you are interested in Trivia. The poll is
here. This poll is for infomative use
only and does not guarantee a particular day or time for Trivia. It is only to find out what times
people think are best.

#VGMusic - MIDI Trivia on Saturday, September 29th, 2001
VGMusic.com will host a trivia contest that will test how well you know the music on our site. This is your chance to prove how much of a Video Game Music Fan (VGMF) you are!
How it works: At the start of a round, players will be given a MIDI file (with title info deleted), and will have five minutes to personal message (/msg) me with the game title. Each correct answer will score you a point. There will be 15 rounds in all. The top three scorers will get their names and website posted in a news update.
If YOU think you are the Ultimate Video Game Music Fan, come to:
Using mIRC:

Two New Domestic Soundtracks
Two New Domestic Soundtracks
Tokyopop announced today that they would be releasing two new Final Fantasy Soundtracks, featuring the works of legendary game music computer Nobuo Uematsu. FINAL FANTASY N Generation Official Best Collection (Catalog No. TPCD 0212-2) will contain selected songs from Final Fantasy through Final Fantasy VI. FINAL FANTASY S Generation Official Best Collection (Catalog No. TPCD 0213-2) will contain selected songs from Final Fantasy VII through Final Fantasy IX.
Both soundtracks will debut on October 23rd (the same day Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within comes out on VHS and DVD) with an MSRP of $14.98 each at most video game stores.
I'll be posting more information, such as a track list, when I have verified it (Sorry, GIA, but I'd like to verify that
tracklist before I post it. :P)
(Powerlord)SNES Test Section
SNES Test Section
The SNES Test Section is now open
to the public after being tested internally for the past week.
In addition, you can now register usernames and edit your profile. (The User List is not yet functional, however)
The test section may be going up and down later tonight as I switch over to a slightly revised SQL
script I wrote.

Please Donate to American Red Cross
Please Donate to American Red Cross
Please donate money to the American Red Cross. One such way to do that is via the
Paypal's American Red Cross Relief Fund.
I made my own donation there, and I hope you will too.
I just moved out to California in early September from Connecticut.
I'm a little
upset on how planes heading to Los Angeles International Airport were
3 of the doomed planes, since that is the airport I arrived at.
Such a tragedy affects everyone. Please do your part to make a
difference.

Tragedy
Tragedy
As many of you might have already known, the World Trade Center and US Pentagon today came under terrorist attack. Although the attacks have seemed to stop for now, it will be a long time before the pain and suffering is over. Our condolences and thoughts are with the thousands of people that were unfortunate enough to fall victim to this dreadful event.
In the next couple of days, blood will be urgently needed by those that have been injured. For those that live in the US, please consider donating blood to your local Red Cross Chapter.

Upload Script Online, Project Majestic Mix
Upload Script Online
The upload script is back online. However, if you could please
moderate the number of files uploaded per day, it would make our hosts
System Administrator happy. (He's still ticked about the problems
he had installing Oracle 8 on Telefragged's servers.)
Project Majestic Mix
This is a reminder that KFSS Studios still needs
donations in order to cover Project
Majestic Mix's CD costs.

Upload Script Offline, Important Poll!
Upload Script Offline
The upload script is offline in an attempt to get some of the files cleared
out.
This is not a permanent shutdown. We will eventually bring it back online.
Please do not send the staff members email with files you wanted to upload.
There's a good chance that the new upload system will be finished by the end of the
month. That means, adjusting for my laziness, it should be up by the middle of September.
(As Pongball put it, we are "the least productive web team on the net!")
Important Poll!
There's an important poll on our Forums regarding the new upload system I mentioned above.
I'll need this information before I can complete step 4 of the upload system.
Poll:
Should the new upload system automatically rename files to the following format regardless of filename?
Game Name - Song Name (Sequencer).mid

Interesting, very interesting
Interesting, very interesting
I was browsing the web this morning (early morning, around 5am), when I ran across some... familiar... images
on a small game music site's nostalgia page.
The images are these four, using the exact dimensions they are linked to here:

Look familiar? If not, try checking the urls of the files I linked to. Or, better yet,
check out this page, a fixed version of this page.
In case you're too lazy to check out that page, it's our sites index from July 27th, 1998. I found it
a few months ago in my main Media directory. The images in question were the link images for the Sega
Genesis, SNES, NES, and Arcade pages respectively, although our HTML code didn't make the images larger
than their actual size in the files. I added the Arcade and MSX systems to that page to show the image we
used to link to the arcade section, as it was one of the images used on this other site.

Yet Another Virus Warning
Yet Another Virus Warning
Don't know about you guys, but for the past few days been getting flooded with e-mails that have the following message and attachment in it.
Hi! How are you?
I send you this file in order to have your advice
See you later. Thanks
The attachment in the file reads project.doc.pif. Needless to say, if you get a message like that or any thing similar to it, DO NOT OPEN IT. Delete it right away.
Update: Boy I'm blind. Didn't read through all of Powerlord's post. Just received it in another variant. >:| Still something to keep a watch for.

Not as Catastrophic as it seemed
Not as Catastrophic as it seemed
The forums are back up again. Unfortunately, there were some casualities.
It turns out it was the w3t_Users table that got corrupted. I had Telefragged's Admin repair the table, but while doing
so, it removed some rows entirely... meaning that some of you may have to create a new account.
That includes almost everyone who attempted to use the forums for any length of time while the problem was occuring
(the more posts you viewed, the more likely that it would trash your account while updating ReadTemp on the w3t_Users table).

It's the End of the World as We Know It: Part II, It's the End of the World as We Know It, Virus Warning
It's the End of the World as We Know It: Part II
The forums are now completely disabled until Telefragged can find out why it can't
save the results of a query.
At first I thought perhaps the Users table was corrupted, but since I've also had problems with the TempRead table, I
now suspect that MySQL wasn't recompiled properly when Telefragged upgraded that server.

It's the End of the World as We Know It
The forums seem to be slowly dying, killing off the users one by one (I've lost four accounts today!). It's been going on like this since around 9:40 (Pacific Time) this morning. At this time, we do not know what is causing it, nor when it will be fixed. It appears, however, that it's a database problem at Telefragged's end. I do not believe it is at all related to the virus mentioned below. In fact, I blame sunspots.
Anyway, come join the fun at the end of the world. Enjoy the downward spiral into oblivion as it happens. Take bets on who will be the next one to disappear! It's all happening over at our forums.
For those of you who have been hit, the Bug Reports board is open for anonymous posting. Due to the nature of the problem, however, you will have to disable or delete your forums.vgmusic.com cookie before you will be able to post anonymously.

Virus Warning
I received three messages today on my vgmusic.com email address that my virus scanner flagged.
The messages and files were produced by the
SirCam Worm.
This worm has a set of patterns. The known patterns are listed below.
The subject of the message will be the name of the attachment without any extension.
The message body of the English version will *always* start with "Hi! How are you?" and end with "See you later. Thanks"
It will contain one of the following between those two lines:
I send you this file in order to have your advice
I hope you can help me with this file that I send
I hope you like the file that I sendo you
This is the file with the information that you ask for
The attachment is known to be distributed with the following names:
pokeface.zip.bat
thecarrace.doc.com
Memos informativos 2000.1.doc.lnk
Once there was.doc.com
SirC32.exe
Tech Specs and Financials.doc.com

I'll miss you all.
