Our Fifth Anniversary
Our Fifth Anniversary
Give us a high five... in celebration of our five years online! We've had some terrific
milestones along the way.
The most important happenings from this past year have been our transition to our own web server,
as well as putting online a prototype of our new database system.
Kudos to Powerlord for bringing the new database project closer to reality. Also special thanks
to The Jade Emperor, Mark, and Pongball doing in the most important staff work of all: updates!
Also a salute to Kalrac, the king of the forums and the master of FAQs. So many
sequencers (and lets not forget the original composers!) to thank! Traffic to the site has continued
to grow, with over 1,000,000 visits this past year. Your patronage to the site is appreciated.
Take a peak down memory lane by visiting the Internet Archive's WayBackMachine copies
of VGMusic.com, going back as far as Dec 12, 1998.

Planned Outage Finished, BIGmog Radio out... for the moment
Planned Outage Finished
Our server was out this morning, as expected. In fact, it just came back online about
two hours ago. It looks like it was reconnected to the network moments ago.
BIGmog Radio out... for the moment
BIGmog Radio is out due to some problems over at Live365.
Apparently they are having problems with their bandwidth provider.

Planned Outage part 2
Planned Outage part 2
Apparently they didn't transfer over all the servers last week.
Our server is still at the old location.
Our server is, however, in the group slated to be transfered early Wednesday morning.
All servers starting with IPs that start with 216.40.241-243 are scheduled to be moved in groups
of 32 sometime between 1am EST and 7am EST.

Planned Outage
Planned Outage
Our server will be down for approximately 1-2 hours between 1am-7am EST Wednesday, November 28th, or between 1am-7am
EST Friday, November 30th.
Our host, Rackshack, is moving its hosted servers
to its new data center on these two dates.

It's a Fixer-Upper, New Servers Go Good with Gravy
It's a Fixer-Upper
I made a booboo in the upload script. I used a directory link rather
than an actual directory name in a path. Oh well, it's all fixed now.

New Servers Go Good with Gravy
Happy Thanksgiving and welcome to VGMusic.com on our new dedicated server (which we are paying for)
at RackShack. A "dedicated server"
means we are the only website present on our webserver. Better than that,
we have full control over the server. So say goodbye to those annoying UGO ads!
During our transition, we lost the last three weeks of New-Files.
But everything else should be working fine. Your past and future support by shopping
through the VGMusic Store is greatly appreciated
to help us afford running this site. (Shameless plug: buy someone you love a video game
soundtrack for the holidays!!)

Temporary Problem
Temporary Problem
Seems our old host, Telefragged, decided they don't like us anymore,
so they cut off their hosting services earlier than we wanted
from their server which hosts the regular
VGMusic.com URL. Powerlord
and I will be scrambling today to get our domain name moved
over to this new server ASAP.

Another forums location change
Another forums location change
I've changed the forums so that they no longer reside on a subdomain, but instead reside on the
main site. You can go here, which will automatically take you to the
proper location.
For those of you who noticed, I copy and paste to create new news entries!

Boo to you too!!!
Boo to you too!!!
Happy Halloween everyone! Grab some Castlevania 2 songs
and get spooky! As you can see by the previous link, our test database lets us
link directly to pages for specific games. Gotta love it. While treating your ears to Halloween music,
also treat your eyes to Buddha-the-Pumpkin.

More Test Pages
More Test Pages
Try out the links on the left side of the Music Test Page.
All music sections are now currently operational, with the exception of the new Recent Additions and
Newly Submitted Files pages (the links go to the old pages instead). You might want to try them out, especially those
of you who are on dialup connections.
Those of you who have tried out the Edit Profile feature of the new system will want to drop
me an email: there was a major bug in the system that caused passwords to be changed to a random password. However,
since the Profile Editor also set a new cookie, you won't notice the problem... until you log out and try to log back in.
UPDATE: 5:52pm EDT
You don't need to contact me unless you have logged out. If you have not logged out,
go to Edit Profile and click the Change Password button. This will let you set a new password.
This problem only applies to the main site. The Forums are not affected by this.

Four Million for Millions
Four Million for Millions
On Thursday, October 4, our front page hit counter reached 4,000,000 visitors since
December 19, 1996. An updated graph of our visitation growth can be found on the updated
Milestones page. It should
be noted the hit counter is not the most accurate stastical indicator in the world.
Our Hitbox stats are
more accurate, but still undercounted. We currently are getting about 4,000 unique visitors
per day, which is just as amazing as the 4,000,000 total.
Special thanks go to our visitors, midi sequencers, the composers of the music, and
the rest of the VGMusic staff who have kept this fine site going strong.
