Downtime this afternoon

Downtime this afternoon

Our site was down for most of the day today as we had a System Restore done. We had the system restore done because of some recent problems.

Among other changes, new-files is now updated hourly. If you see any new problems, please tell them to me.

Update: For some reason, .htaccess file are failing site wide, rendering most of the site inaccessable. I will be looking into that issue shortly.

Halfway to Adding New Digit to Hit Counter

Halfway to Adding New Digit to Hit Counter

Early Wednesday morning (PST), we had our 5,000,000th visitor! Hooray! Check out the Milestones page for the history of the site, and also a nifty hit counter graph.

No word yet on who was the 5,000,000th visitor, but it wasn't a staff member this time. :-)

As always, a disclaimer: the hit counter is not very accurate! However, its a tribute to the simpler times of the internet when getting any hit of any kind, no matter how inaccurate, was what counted. Fortunately, now that we are on our own dedicated webserver, we have very good local statistics to consider. On a typical day, our website handles 316,062 hits (any kind of request made to the server), serves 209,265 files (a lot of HTML and MIDI files), and receives 11,353 visits (unique IP address requesting files at least one hour apart). And most importantly, our bandwidth consists of serving 4.8 GB of data per day!

Total Count Script Fixed

Total Count Script Fixed

I hadn't realized it was broken, but when I went to add the Gamecube section to the main page, I found that it wouldn't update the total count on the main page... and hadn't for some time. The new count should be correct.

Oh, and yes, I do know that the Gamecube Classic layout style doesn't work quite right... for some reason, it drops the game's name (Super Smash Bros. Melee in this case).

Forums Upgrade

Forums Upgrade

The forums are currently being upgraded to UBBThreads 5.5. They should be available again later this morning. We will be running without any of our custom modifications until I determine which ones I can apply and which files I need to modify. This version being the first major version release since Infopop took over WWWThreads should have quite a few changes in it internally.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year

Happy New Year everyone! Dale North and Mustin, regulars over at Overclocked Remix cooked up a special Zelda Remix/Drama Piece.

There is a list of mirrors. Additionally, VGMusic has a local mirror. It's not on the official mirrors list because I forgot to email Mustin (oops on my part).
