Project Majestic Mix goes Gold
A little late, but not really.
Project Majestic Mix's Gold
Edition started shipping this past weekend.
I received mine today, in fact, which reminded me to post this. I now
hold in my hand Disc set 0608 of 1500.
Mustin even attached a sticky note for me. It reads (spaces are
approximated):
Pow Pow Powerlord
Pow Pow Powerlord
Pow Pow Powerlord
Pow Pow Powerlord.
Thanks
Mustin
Does this mean I now have to write out Mus Mus Mustin on a sticky note and
send it back to him?
PMM Gold Edition Important Notes:
- About 18 of the sets have a booklet with poor printing. Please see
the PMM site
for instructions on how to identify if your set is one of those.
- Sheet music didn't get into every set. If you didn't any in your set,
and wish to have it, you have two options.
- Sheet music will be available to download and print at a later
date.
- An additional set of sheet music is being printed. Please refer to
the PMM Site
on how to get it.
- The cover art, disc art, booklet front cover, and page backgrounds
were done by Greg Spencer, but apparently he
wasn't credited for it in the booklet.
- Project Majestic Mix's website is getting an overhaul that will be
revealed next month.
- The Web Guy listed on our donations page is the same Web Guy from
Project Majestic Mix (Aaron Teague).
For those of you who are curious, our site is mentioned twice in the Gold
Edition booklet:
- At the bottom of page 4 ("Michael Newman and the staff of
VGMusic.com")
- on page 13 ("Other than an old site called ZodiacBrave,
VGMusic.com was the first major
supporter and sponsor/host for PMM")
R.I.P. ZodiacBrave... Zealboy, thou art missed.

Another Promotion
Okay, Everybody Point And Laugh At The New Guy
In addition to the reworking of the existing staff members, The Powers
That Be
have hired me as an additional updater. Some of you know me as a forums moderator.
Whether you know me or not, what's up? I know the new-files look huge,
folks,
but keep 'em coming. If it weren't for submissions from everyone, there
wouldn't
be an archive. I can't promise to update all the midis from that
directory
overnight, but, hey, I'm working on it.

Two Staff Members' Promotions
Changing Staff Position Titles To Make Ourselves Look More
Productive
In order to make the site run more efficiently, we've created two new
positions.
Thus, Pongball is now the Update Coordinator, and Jade is the Quality
Control
Coordinator. These positions carry new responsibilities and obligations,
and
help us to have a better chain of command, as well as make us much more
flexible
to hire new people. The Update Coordinator will oversee the
review and handling of the new file submissions and have authority to hire
new
staff for that purpose too. Likewise, the Quality Control Coordinator will
responsible for archive corrections (mispellings, duplications, etc.) and
is
the best person to contact if you are a sequencer and have
comments/questions
about your files on the site. The "QC" Coordinator can also hire new staff
members
for carrying out these tasks too.

Welcome Playstation 2 Magazine-UK Subscribers!!
Site Mentioned in Another Article
The archive was mentioned on Page 124 in the July 2002 Issue 22 of the
Playstation 2 Official Magazine-UK. A scanned version of the article is
available
here
(Copyright © 2002 Future Publishing). Special thanks
to "Peter Pan" for letting us know about the article. 39ster astutely
noticed
the irony of an image of Mario, Link, Sonic, and Miles being in a
Playstation 2 magazine...
Good to see video game music is appreciated no matter what console
stars are in our logo.

New Article About Video Game Music
One Small Step for VGMusic, One Giant Leap Over This Site
A newspaper
article
about video game music came out today in my local newspaper,
The Hartford Courant, called
"Video
Game Music Gets Some Respect".
Its the most detailed article on video game music I've seen yet. However,
it fails
to mention any specific Internet resources, including this site. I had an
interview
with the reporter regarding this article and was hoping we would be
mentioned, but
alas, it didn't happen. But as 39ster puts it: "still, some good promotion
for what we fight for".
In related news, this past week, through the power of the almighty Google,
I discovered for the first time two older articles that mention this site.
We were mentioned in a February 2000 Wired
article "Scoring
a Grammy" by Brad King, as
he refers to this site and its hit counter near 2,000,000. Local scanned
copy
of page available here.
Additionally, we were mentioned in a February 2001 newspaper article
titled
"The
Joystick Symphonies" about video game music by
the Washington Post (District
of Columbia).
If know of any other articles, even if not online, about video game music
(doesn't
have to mention this site), please let
me know.
I'm trying to keep a list of such articles on the
Related
Links
page.

Well, if you're reading this, you're looking at VGMusic's new server.
I've had an odd problem reported to me this aftThe hit counter is messed
up again, so please be
patient while we fix it.
Also a wish for a Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there!
I wonder how many visit this site?

Server Problems
Problems with the server
Apparently a few table indices got corrupted on the Database server. I'm
not sure why that happened...
The tables affected were the Who's Online table for our forums, and one of
the tables over at BIGmog's Phorums.
Pongball repaired the forums table earlier today, and I took the database
server offline and ran the check and repair
utility on all database tables on the system.
Everything should now be in working order.
On another note, for some reason our counter got reset to 0... I have
since forwarded it to 5.8 million, since I last
remember the counter's number starting with "58". (Note by Mike
2002-05-07: We reduced the counter by 100,000 to 5.7 million because
my records showed that to be the "correct" count at the time of the
error)
(Ross

We currently have a Server problem. I don't know if there's much we can
do before Powerlord returns, but you are advised to avoid all areas of the
forums until further notice. If you do venture into the forums, you may
find your forums account gets deleted byThe Black Death II: Return of the
Black Death. You may have also noticed the counter has reset again.

Just a boring Poll
A poll to see what Connections Visitors to the Site have.
Just a boring (interesting?) poll to see what connections our visitors
have to the site. Now that broadband is coming commonplace, are dialup
connections becoming fast out of date? Almost everyone I know now in the
UK, USA or Canada has DSL or cable now, or a broadband network connection
at their college. But are broadband users to this site a majority? Fill in
the simple
poll.
Broadband is becoming cheaper and more available now. Isn't it time you
looked into it if you don't have it?

Industry News
Danny Pelfrey to Score Three New Star Trek Games for Activision
HOLLYWOOD, CA - Activision has just announced that award-winning
composer and multi-instrumentalist Danny Pelfrey has been awarded a
contract to compose music for three new Activision Star Trek Games.
"His musical score for both pre-rendered movie sequences and
background ambient music is truly awe inspiring. I wouldn't feel
comfortable scoring a game without him," said Doug Pearson, Producer
for Activision. Danny Pelfrey has created music for six Star Trek
interactive Activision games, including the best-selling Star Trek
game ever Star Trek Armada, and "Game of the Year" nominee Star Trek
Elite Force. [Read

Encyclopedia
Encyclopedia
Some of you may remember the Video Game Encyclopedia, some of you
may not. I maintained it from January 1998 to September 1998 or
so, when WildKard took it over.Work on it was last done in November
of 1998 (with a few link fixes in 2000).Somehow, people are still
stumbling upon it, and reporting Broken Links to me (of course it's
going to have broken links, ithasn't been updated in years!). Since
it is no longer useful, I am deleting it from the site.
The other reason is this: GameFAQs
has a much more complete game list, and they actually keep it fairly
up to date!

Brownout?, This time every year!
Brownout?
Missed the "power outage?"
If you're using Internet Explorer 5.5+, here's a chance to meet
Mr. Spotlight. Be warned however, as
the effect will suck up CPU cycles.
Update: Downlevel support has been added. If you're using IE4+ the
effect should be visible now.

This time every year!
Another year, another April Fools day.
The difference between this year and the past few years is that this
year, there wasn't just one change.
First things first... the PMM story? Totally fake. The only real
thing in there was the Jacob Kaufmanquote (taken from
VGMix's april fools day joke on
their main page) and thereminder that preorders for the Silver edition
and Gold edition donations had to be postmarked by yesterday. By the
way, they are still accepting payments from people who already donated
for the gold edition earlier.
IE5 users may have noticed the spotlight on the page for about 6 or
so hours. We removed that because it really ate CPU power.
This years crowning touch was the
Fake Staff board
on the forums. Where else could we post so many rumors and fake site
information in such a small space? Some posts on there are real...
most weren't. Come on, us starting a subscriber service? A second
server? :)

Power Fixed, Project Majestic Mix delayed... again
Power Fixed
OK, we tracked down the problem with the main page and fixed it.
Project Majestic Mix delayed... again
Project Majestic Mix is being delayed yet again. Before you start
booing, however, read the rest of this message.
Stephan Kennedy announced today that KFSS Studios would be merging
with the fairly new Game Music Arrangement site,
VGMix.com. "I believe that the
talented arrangers of VGMix could be a valuable assetto draw on for
future KFSS Studios projects," said Mr. Kennedy. "Please, visit
scientology.org and
discover all you've been missing. You owe it to yourself," said
Jacob Kaufman, one of the founders of VGMix.
On another note, PMM Gold Edition payments had to be postmarked by
yesterday. PMM Silver Editions had to be preordered by yesterday.
Gold and Silver editions will begin shipping once the merger is
completed. This is as yet unconfirmed, but orders for the Unlimited
edition should also begin once the merger is completed.
Source: The GIA
Update: The GIA is shutting down and somehow removed this story
from their main page when they putup one of their columns.
