Generous Support

VGMusic has been financially staying afloat thanks to the generous support of numerous visitors. See the Donations Page for a list of such charitable fellows. One such entity is Pupu Platters Studios - a multimedia/game development company based in Columbus, Ohio - which was kind enough to make a "Patron Saint"-level donation ($100 or more) at the end of December. Check out their website for great flash games. Pupu Platters is interested in making one for us, so please respond to this thread with new ideas for flash games that would be nice to have for our website.

TechTV's Screensavers

We were mentioned on TechTV's "The Screen Savers" show last night (Jan 23, 2004). This marks the second time we've been mentioned on this particular show. You can see a clip of when we were Site of the Nite on October 8th, 2002.

Happy Holidays

Happy Holidays to everyone out there who celebrates (C)Hanukkah or Christmas.

I don't know about the rest of the staff, but I'm leaving town Wednesday after I get out of work, and won't be back until sometime in the afternoon on the Thursday... I won't be checking the boards or site until then. Well, unless my Aunt Nancy and Uncle Alan let me use their internet connection, that is.

Oh, and to the staff: If you want to give the site a present... you can always update your respective sections! New-files is at an all-time high, and will get progressively worse to update the longer it gets put off.

Happy 7th Birthday!

Today marks the 7th birthday/anniversary/time-around-the-sun for the Videogame Music Archive. In the past year alone, we have transmitted over 1.5 terabytes of music. Here's looking to another melodious year of tunes. (Past Milestones)

update: a new heart!

Hooray! Thanks to VGMusic community support, the month of November was completely covered. Thanks everyone! (Now 3 hearts, although near beginning of December link takes a hit and goes back down to two hearts when we pay out for the server expenses.)

Rewards for donating would be cool. There are problems with doing custom titles which I'd rather not have to subject myself or staff with. But there may be ways around that. I will ponder it.

I've also pondered t-shirts in the past, but I don't think we'd sell enough to make it worthwhile.

Fundraising 2003

We're running a new fundraising campaign to strengthen the site's financial resources. The good news is that although our cash reserves are at a record two-year low, I am more than able to cover the expenses if need be due to my fun environmental engineering job. However, community support would be appreciated. Please see the Donation Page for more info, including an expanded Donors List with new contributions already in the past few weeks, and a nutty fundraising meter.

I've also pondered t-shirts in the past, but I don't think we'd sell enough to make it worthwhile.

VGMix rises again

VGMix 2.0 went live yesterday.

I never cared for the layout of the original VGMix site. This time, the crew there has outdone themselves. The site looks very good. Once they build up their music base, the site will be very impressive indeed. The layout is much better than a certain site's layout, which hasn't had a major facelift in 5 or so years.

On to other news:

The staff might have already noticed this, but I've been distancing myself from the site again. After working for this site for 6 years, I need more time away from this site. This especially applies to time away from the other staff members, who have been driving me crazy lately.

DoS Attack

Some of you checking our site might have noticed quite a bit of slowdown with the site.

Some of you might have even saw the forums suddenly start kicking back 403 Forbidden errors.

To make a long story short, someone was causing one of our scripts to tie up a lot of system resources. The IP that this person was using has been blocked on the operating system level.

New Java IRC Client

I replaced the old jIRC client with a pjirc one.

Rather than link to it directly, I'm instead linking to the IRC Chatroom page, so that people who are learning about our chatroom for the first time can learn more information about it, including, but not limited to, the channel rules.

VGMusic in October's Official Playstation Magazine

I actually saw this mentioned on another site while VGMusic was down a few weeks ago. Mustin, I believe, posted a scan of it, which I've mirrored here.

Other sites that were mentioned are Overclocked Remix, VGMidi, KFSS Studios, and (inexplicably), the MTV Music Generator 2
