Song of the Day: Starman (NES: Super Mario Bros.)

Postby Yaginuma » Tue Dec 20, 2011 10:23 pm

"Song of the Day" is an initial attempt to start building user feedback on new files to help us review them for inclusion into the archive. Here's an easy one for first for review: Starman (NES: Super Mario Bros.) (MIDI file) (TXT file). Some issues to consider: Does this song match the title and game? Is it good enough to include in the archive, or should improvements be requested? (We can always include a song if its good enough AND give feedback for future improvements). Any other comments appreciated. I'll pick longer songs in the future.

Don't want to sound like an ass. But I personally don't think it belongs in the archive. This MIDI is a joke.

Let's compare it to the real Starman theme: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lw049q22-hY

It's an absolutely terrible transcription. It mustn't be in the archive.

There are so many Starman themes submitted here, and this one isn't one of the better ones. I'd vote to decline.

Also, why does the submission queue take so much longer than it used to? I see MIDIs dating back to 2008.
Course clear! You got a card.

I agree, unless it's trying to be some kind of remix (hearing the clapping in the background), several of the notes sound a 1/2 step off, I wouldn't include this in the archive either.

It's a simple song that doesn't need to be heavy orchestrated to sound good.
It's not labeled as a 'remix' or a 'rearrangement' so I didn't compare it to the ones that did.
That being said... I would keep it in comparison with the other two w/o the 'rearrangement' title.
