Suggestion: More Admins

I'm thinking that you guys just need a few admins that way the uploads can be reviewed and added more quickly to the archive.

The VGM Board has enough update staff (There are 4.). It's just that they need to be more active (Besides Blitz, who is always hard at work.).

The last major update was January 2011 (without the exception of the two MIDI files added in December 2011). That's almost 1 year ago.
There are some files over 3 years old in the archive.

honestly there probably should be new staff. without my own computer i can't work on the site right now anyway, and when i can, it's sadly not likely i'll want to :<
the site does need updating. the new-files are rather vast again.

thought for the future: a more feasible solution might be to just do away with the new-files as a temporary area, have some kind of auto-accept into the archive instead (but still display recent submissions), then just curate the entire archive. it's much easier to manually delete crap submissions than manually add the good ones. but it probably doesn't make much sense to tack that idea on to the existing site.

I agree there needs to be more update staff (or the current staff needs to be something like 10x more active).
There is MIDIs waiting since december 2008 to be added to the archive, that's more than 3 years !
Eventually the "Newly submitted files" become a permanent place to look for files.

Another unrelated problem : In the archive, it's common that music from the same game is located under two different titles.
Exemple : Some files are under "Mega Man" and some others under "Rockman" when both are the same - the music is the same in the japanese version and western versions in 99.9% of games.

VGM should include a drop-down menu or pages of checkboxes listing the most popular games on their upload page. They can list the most popular titles and have an "other" for low-popularity games. I know AMV.org does it for their Music Video submissions. The uploader has to checkbox which anime titles they used in their music video. Non-anime titles are also shown on the lists but struck and greyed out to indicate that these titles are not accepted. This can help reduce some redundancy for video game titles although it doesn't protect from mislabeled files.

I know from personal experience that waiting for "busy" staff members, especially older ones, to suddenly find hours to become active again is an iffy proposition at best.

Also, do the admins still check PMs?
Course clear! You got a card.

I do. However, I'm... less involved with running the site than I used to be. Other than making sure the server OS, webserver, and forum software remains updated, that is.
