"Nintendo" suggestion

Postby Chris Read » Tue Nov 01, 2005 7:21 pm

How about calling "Nintendo" "NES" in the New-Files, Upload-Files pages, etc.? Because "Nintendo" is the name of the company. So, it's kinda like saying Nintendo makes the Nintendo. And, as long as I'm talking about this, changing the Super Nintendo to Super NES?
All hail Atari 2600!

I second that. You could even just have SNES instead of Super NES, or if you wanted to have the full names, (Super) Nintendo Entertainment System, but that would be too long.

Believe it or not, there might be some people in the world who don't know that "NES" refers to Nintendo's original console. Since "Nintendo Entertainment System" would take far too much space, my suggestion would be to have it listed as "Nintendo (NES)", which would hopefully satisfy everyone in one way or another. Likewise, the Super Nintendo could become "Super Nintendo (SNES)." I realize that the majority of the people coming to this site would most likely know what an NES is, but for the sake of clarity and avoiding confusion on everyone's part, having both the system name and the acronym would probably be the best option.

But that's just my opinion, so go ahead and prove how I'm wrong.

I disagree. Famicom is the more unpopular version of the name, as I believe it's called in another language. Since this is an english based site, it should stick to english.

BTW, if I'm wrong about the whole language thing, sorry.

Famicon is the Japanese name of the NES. It's supposed to mean "Family Computer" or something like that. Same goes for Super Famicon.

I thought the "Famicom" ran with disks. Or at least the Super Famicom did.

I think that was an add-on, in the same idea of Sega CD.... not sure, though.

Nintendo Entertainment System takes up too much space? Is the internet running out of room?
