Hello, I started messing with midi only a few night ago so please forgive my ignorance if the answer to this question is obvious.
My ultimate intent is to have a midi concertina and since those instruments are awfull expensive I got a cheap Yamaha midi capable keyboard as test instrument until to get the basics down. I downloaded Anvil studio and multitrack studio which are both free midi recording software that seems to be reasonably well rated.
The problem is that when I press a key on the keyboard, the note sounds in the software - but once, and only for a brief moment. when I press a different note nothing happens until a random time passes, then another note will sound for a brief moment. I am unable to record even two successive notes or have the software capture even one note of the correct duration.
This is what I have done:
I hooked up the keyboard wia a wireless midi connection through usb to my laptop. I made sure the midi in port is set to the right device (automatic selection by the software seemed to look right)
In anvilstudio I ran the utility to test midi connections. Midi out worked fine and Midi In listed all the events from the keyboard correctly. (being different notes, start when I press the note, keep duration until I release the note, fast notes, slow notes, all showed up on the log) It looks to me like the input from the keyboard is received correctly by the software.
But when I try to record, alas, the sounds cuts of after a brief moment of the first note. Since this is happening in two software programs I am suspecting blatant stupidity or some error. I read somewhere that the cause might be that midi out is enabled and I even tried disabling midi out with no improvement what so ever. Google has been no help either.
Does anybody have an idea where I am going off the track here (pardon the pun)
