1) Is there going to be a soundfont containing everyone's samples?
2) Do the sounds have to be recorded by the entrants themselves, or can they come from a sample bank or something? I (and other people I'm sure) don't have a microphone or anything that records sound... :\
3) How about a theme that would serve as a guide for this SPC?
4) Why don't you have a panel of independent judges rate the entries, rather than everyone rating each other's? I've always found this method to work better.
5) Can't wait to take part in this SPC. :D

Could be another contest like the first one where you just pick any three samples you have, don't necessarily have to be ones you've made. Don't even have to be from sample banks -- infact I like it when they're not, and they're just random crap instead :D I have some ideas for mine already. Although some melodic samples are needed too. IIRC there was a stipulation that at least one sample in each person's submissions had to be melodic... I don't recall now. Anything can be melodic really, but you know...

3) How about a theme that would serve as a guide for this SPC?

I suggested he mention the theme he has in mind and ask everyone's opinion, but he hasn't... hrm, well, there is a theme anyway. Anubis, please divulge!

Surely the more people who vote, the fairer it is (for those who care about votes anyway.) Voting has been optional in the past, as has submitting samples (and has entering, if you look at it from the perspective of voters and sample submitters.) I think the voting system in the past has been more complex than necessary though... wonder how it could be simplified.

Also, I'd be cool with it starting soon/now-ish :) you can set the deadline until ages away, and it wouldn't take long to set up. I can knock a soundfont up dead quickly, though I couldn't bother setting loop points or tuning anything - that's their responsibility :D this contest has never been GM-friendly anyway, as Lychee will tell you. Wonder if I can rope her into entering this time...

Well, I wasn't sure I was going to put the theme right now but here it is:
For this new SPC you will be able to work in 2 ways: the First is ''Freedom'' and the Second one is ''Challenge''
Here how it works:
- The Freedom Section will be used for everyone who would like to do whatever they want, like the old SPCs.
- The Challenge Section will contain different themes chosen by the contestants. Each person will be able to make only one song per themes, and at the end, people will vote for the best song made for this theme.

At the end of the contest, I compiled everyone votes in the Freedom Section, but for the challenge, I'll give bonus points for every winner of each themes.
For now the number of themes is not decided, but I think that is gonna be a number equal to the half of the contestants.
(Btw, it's under construction, you can always discuss about it)

That's cool for me. I'll change this topic to become the SPC # 4. I'll start a contestant list for everyone who would like to join it! :D

YEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

My favourite contest! :D Hooray!

I'm in. So contestants can enter songs for both the freedom and challenge sections, but in the end the challenge winners add those points to their freedom points? Is there a min/max song lengh? Thanks a lot for organising this.

yes, the challenge winners will add their points to their freedom points.
There is no Max length, but I would preferably have a min Song length which is about 1 min.
I thank you also for joining this contest :D

Wheeee SPC! These are the most fun! :D

Sadly, I really don't think I'll be able to take part this time.
Got so much stuff from university it's not even funny.
Don't wanna rule out the possibility though, it can't hurt to have a slot saved for me, can it?

If for some reason there's too many participants, feel free to take me off the list, but for now,
what the heck, sign me up. Worst case I won't compose anything.

It's always loads of fun even just listening to the results anyway,
this brings the best out of our collective creative minds. :)

My only problem is: I can't record sounds via use of a mic anymore, due to the death of my good soundcard (it died more than a year ago) and recording utilities that came with it (due to being forced to switch to Vista).

Other than that minor problem, I'm all game for entering this, in-fact, if it is allowed, I'd like to make samples using my FL Studio if that is allowed. IT would still be sounds I made up myself, just via the use of a program.

Edit: turns out I can just use Audacity to edit and record sounds, so it looks likes its all in the green for me at this point. Definitely count me in. Still let me know if using FL to make sounds is permitted (being original sounds and not just samples being adjusted in FL).

This is an interesting competition. I'd like to join.

Do my samples have to be recorded via a microphone? Or is it OK if I use a cable? I was thinking of connecting my guitar to the computer and recording a sound from that (with no effects or distortion applied of course)

Basically I'm asking, are there any rules on what you can sample?

As far as I understand, this competition is gonna use the same rules as the first regarding samples (ie. the source can be whatever you like, doesn't even have to be original -- for instance the amen break was used in the first contest.) If you wanna make tracks in a tracker that's also fine, though it comes with limits as to what effects processing you can utilise (same with GM/soundfont.)

Thanks again for helping everyone out there  .
Since it's my first time hosting the SPC, I don't know much more than you  .
