I always forget about one thing: do we save it in Midi 0 or Midi 1 ? and what's the difference?

IIRC, MIDI 0 stuffs all the channels onto one track, whereas MIDI 1 is just the normal track per channel (or multiple tracks per channel). In most cases, you'd probably want to save it as MIDI 1 to preserve all the track breakup.

Strangely, Sonar doesn't change all the channels to one track in Midi 0, in fact it was the same as Midi 1 except that the tags of my instruments weren't there, so that keep my song anonymous. I'll keep Midi 0

Oh, I think it might have been that you lose the track structure if there are multiple tracks using the same channel - they'll just be combined in MIDI 0.

Also, that reminds me, totally forgot to remove my tags - hopefully Ace will remove or retag all of the MIDIs before the release, heh.

I've been having a few issues with motivation (surprise surprise), but it seems that I'll manage to whip this thing into shape before the deadline...it does worry me how I'll fare in the coming challenges of this tournament, though. But I seem to be getting some free days coming, so we'll hafta wait and see.

(Why is it even called a deadline, anyway? No wonder so many people take the word negatively...)

Just to let ya know, I haven't forgotten this, so in case you're chompin' at the bit, Ace... I will have it in before chopping time. I'm just finishing the ideas to whip up the last bit of this (writer's block finally fixing itself, woot!), and I'll be done.

Family obligations have kept me from doing anything for this round unfortunately. I really don't think 12 bars will cut it for this thing, and I liked my song so much...

Or, like me, you could accidentally send the host the wrong file two times in a row... x_x; Bah! I should probably go fall asleep in front of the TV like I usually do on Saturdays. My brain's fried... @_@

Pity you couldn't finish yours. I would've liked to hear it.

OK, here we are. Great job on the entries. Sadly, the "Moody Tease" theme was completely neglected. Guess no one wants to be a movie composer...

Round 1 Entries

Entry 1 - The Ocean Depths

Entry 2 - The Ocean Depths

Entry 3 - The Ocean Depths

Entry 4 - It's Clubbin' Time!

Entry 5 - The Ocean Depths

Entry 6 - The Ocean Depths

Entry 7 - The Ocean Depths

Entry 8 - It's Clubbin' Time!

Entry 9 - The Ocean Depths

Entry 10 - It's Clubbin' Time!

Entry 11 - The Ocean Depths

For those of you who want to judge the entries, simply give each entry a rating out of 10. You must rate all of them. Also, if you add comments along with your ratings, I'll release those at the end of the contest. We'll make the scoring deadline 24 hours from now. PM your ratings to me by that time.

Good luck, contestants. :)

It's funny, since most of my buddies say my songs sound mostly like movie themes. :P

Well, that and porn music.

I actually did a movie theme, but I was never able to finish it. : (
I submitted it as a WIP.

What about those who are Judging that have entered a song? Clearly we can't judge our own, and you may not want to release judging info if that is the case, because it will reveal who is who.

My only thought is that we keep our alias even as judges, so that we can post the results with the info and comments.

Edit: I was actually going to make bonus themes, but never got to it. I was going to make a theme for all three. I still might do that if things get boring enough for me, just so I have something to do. I had to just randomly chose the theme for this round, because all 3 had equal thoughts of a song from me.

*PM sent*

Looks like an all-around outstanding effort this time around. Assuming everyone will still be around for the next round, I very much look forward to hearing the next batch. ^_^

You can PM them to me if you want them displayed at the end of the contest. :)

Alright. Here's a score update through round 1. If we're going to keep the anonymity alive, then we can't have comments like, "Darn! Didn't do so well!" or "Oh yeah! I owned that round!" :)

Round 1 Standings

1st - Lightning 84.2%
2nd - Aero 83.3%
3rd - BDSM 81%
4th - Bernard 77%
5th - Garbage 73%
6th - Alias 70%
6th - Alfa D'Amore 70%
8th - Your Lard and Master 65%
9th - Harry Davis 63%
10th - Sharkbait 59.3%
11th - Razordini 53.3%

Here are the round 2 themes. We're using the same philosophy as round 1, but the prompts themselves may be slightly more difficult.

"An Extraordinary Pianist"

Challenge: Compose a piano piece.

Bonus Description: An extraordinary pianist performs an original piece for a live and numerous audience. His handle of stage fright, however, is not extraordinary. He starts out shaky, messing up a few times. But as he progresses, his confidence grows until he completes the piece with style.

"Rite of Passage: The Evil Ritual"

Challenge: Compose for a scene (TV, film, video game, whatever) in which an evil ritual takes place.

Bonus Description: Tribesman huddle together. They wag their torches around and chant evil commandments. A few disciples haul in someone, and he/she undergoes a horrific transformation.

"Not Another Airship Theme"

Challenge: Compose an airship theme.

Bonus Description: Yet another airship takes yet another liftoff, leading to yet another...airship battle? The hero loses? And the airship plummets to the ground in flames? The end? Not another airship theme indeed!

The deadline is one week from today. Good luck. :)
