No it isn't. That's pop music. There is such a thing as artistic merit where you can at least appreciate what's being done.
And no, people shouldn't vote entirely on their own taste, for the many reasons I've spent the last 3 pages describing. It makes sense to try and understand where someone is coming form, even if the track isn't your thing. I do not suspect it is worth arguing with someone, however, who equates "good" and "popular" as being the same thing.
