A score of 00 indicates a perfect 100.
Entries that Redmoonrising04 designated with an asterisk recieved an additional point of raw score before averaging.
Great Showing, all! Grats to Dave and welcome, Dentelle. Way to make an impression!
I told you she was gonna kick our butts.

The Monthly MIDI Contest is an ongoing event here at VGMusic. If you are not familiar with the idea behind it, here is how it works:
A challenge/theme is established and displayed publicly on the 1st of the month. The theme changes monthly, and each contest is based on a different one. Anyone who would like to participate writes one or more pieces of music according to the challenge/theme, and then everyone scores each one. The entries are ranked and results are released by the end of the month.
The MMC is primarily hosted by our own Dust Hill Resident, but he will be away for much of the month. I've volunteered to take that duty for this round of the contest. Any questions or comments can be directed my way this time.
Please state your intent to enter the contest in this thread, as I'll be maintaining a list of entrants.
How to Participate:
- Compose an entry. This should be the first step.
- Send your entry(ies) to djdrocco(at)gmail(dot)com. Please include your VGMusic username in the subject line.
- (optional) Rate each of the entries on a scale of 1-100, with 100 being perfection.
- If you rate the entries, please include a short (or long) comment on each one. Critical feedback is acceptable and encouraged, but please be polite.
- Anyone is welcome to score the entries, even non-participants. I'll make a scoring sheet available along with the entries for your convenience and overall uniformity.
All Entries Must:
- Be in MIDI format, preferably GM1 (ie. no XG or GS commands).
- Be in 7 time (7/4, 7/8, 21/16, etc.)
- Be at least 1:00 in length
- Be no more than 5:00 in length
"7 time" simply means that each measure or bar contains seven full beats instead of the more common 3 or 4. Music in 7 is usually subdivided into repeating counts of 4+3 (One Two Three Four) (One Two Three) or 3+4. Examples of 7/4 and 7/8 time can be found at the bottom of this thread.
EDIT: Time signatures that subdivide the seven beats, like 21/8 or 21/16 are fine as well. As long as it is primarily counted in seven.
EDIT2: Beware of simply scoring for 7/x and then ignoring the measure lines. This can be done to mimic a different time signature on purpose, but only for portions of the entry at a time, and only as an interesting rhythmic effect.
In picking a theme that doesn't limit the composer in any way other than compositionally, judges are free to rate the entries based solely on musical content, rather than having to take into account how well the entry adheres to a set of rules.

Dates and Deadlines
- The contest begins August 1st
- The deadline for submission is August 28. changed!
- The songs will be released on August 28.
- The results of the voting will be announced on August 31st.
All deadlines are at midnight 12:00 CDT (GMT -5) the morning of the date listed.
(Try to send your entries/votes in at least an hour before the deadlines to give yourself some margin for error, and so that I can release the entries/scores according to schedule)
