Haven't heard them yet.

Are there going to be more of these albums made :?: If so, when :?: Could I join too :?:

Also, are these from games already made, or are the originals from the seperate participants :?:

What did MaliceX use to make the covers :?: Photoshop :?:

Currently there are no plans for a second album project, as far as I know.
If there ever is one, you're welcome to participate, yes.

All the songs are original work by the composers.

Oh, I hope there is another album project. Particularly a certain one that we've already had two instalments of in the past 2 years*coughsamplepackcontestcough* Also, is anyone else deciding to make alternative covers? I'd like to collect them for a purpose of diversity. :P

Now..I mentioned a stub earlier, but I'll post my reviews here in tracklisting order:

1. Spudge - Prologue:
MaliceX wrote:A very orchestral piece that is definetly well composed and well produced. The name says it all, it is the interlude to a new beginning of something. A very charismatic approach in melody that clearly shows beautiful soft instruments, to a progressive movement where one would interpret a cinematic image of a new journey.

2. CBlockDis - Wars For Dreams:
MaliceX wrote:As the name says, we are presented a sombre interpretation of climax and misfit somewhere in an imaginary battlefield. The foot is set and again the cinematic image appears only this time the song moves further into, the section transitions and melody tell the story of active movement only to be slain to a slower pace in the last segment.

3. Sir Camehan - The Fight:
MaliceX wrote:Interestingly this song makes use of retro electronic sounds used in past video games the last decade or so, to meet together with a modern touch and create this concoction of a disco-style groove reminiscent to demoscene music. The song does give the impression of the implied 'fight' as obviated by the use of minors and descending progression.

4. Jack Chandler - Ascension
MaliceX wrote:The ostinato-like piano harmonies that present the basic idea slowly grow into something more faster-paced and moving, demonstrated with the use of digital drum sounds and extra background accompaniment which drives the song further to...ascension. The basic melody is improvised as the song reaches further to drive the intended atmosphere given.

5. Jormungand - Forest in the Storm:
MaliceX wrote:Let's say, one has ascended enough to reach their destination and found their way to a new world/place one would never dream of venturing into, in this case an imaginary field of beautiful flora, tree life and more, in the heart of a harsh wilderness. The melodic progression and sound used shows great eloquency as the piece drives and tells the image of such place from one perspective to the next continuously, not to mention it's well balanced out and produced well. As a whole, one would interpret the highly cinematic nature of this piece despite its overall appearance of being background music subconsciously heard to.

6. Kris Troutman - Spoiled Nation:
MaliceX wrote:A highly interpretive piece that is most definitely inspired by video games in the 90's era not just by sound, but by the harmonies used to accompany the song. You could say this song represents a place one is never to have set foot on if the adventure had not begun. Further on, we can see the use of echo repetition to express the depth of significance to what the melody is trying to draw out. As a cohesive whole, I would say there's something 'twisted' about the place the song describes.

7. ButzaW - Fruit of Jupiter:
MaliceX wrote:If you ever heard of fruit growing in Jupiter, well...that's to your interpretation. In this case, this particular song displays a catchy beat with some constant repetition along with slight movement that slowly becomes more frantic which probably means, Jupiter's some crazy place with some crazy tasting, and looking fruit.

8. drumnbach - Singapore:
MaliceX wrote:Well I can't really say much here because I really don't know what Singapore is like, though what I can say is this song shows a somewhat jazz/fusion-inspired groove (pentatonic?) to drive one's thoughts of this city in real life. Always moving, almost sounds like a subliminal advertisement, I can imagine a picture of clean tall buildings surrounded by complete blue or grey.

9. Miszou - Acceleration Arcadia:
MaliceX wrote:At one persepctive, this song is essentially a 'driving' song that goes 4 on the floor not entirely typically, though it shows this plays while someone's zooming through a straight doing slick drifts at night. Otherwise a pumping song in the mix, you always have to have one somewhere. I like the unconventional filtering of sounds, sounds more game friendly as opposed to hardcore gabber noise that blares out at 120 decibels. This song could also work for a brief cutscene segment of fast paced action.

10. dj.tuBIG/MaliceX - Dwindling Petal, Dwelling Rose:
MaliceX wrote:This was my own piece. I initially thought of this piece for something far in the middle, a hazy scene of flowers in a field, though it turned to something more I can't say. Woodwinds driving the pace of the song, with an ostinato chord line repeating in the background to back it up. Mix that in 5/8 and 6/8 and you get this.

11. Magister ZZ - Phantasia:
MaliceX wrote:From the start to finish this piece flows from an ethereal atmosphere to something else that seems to act on its own by melody and instrument (minimal?). The very image depicted is exclusively background music oriented, a bit of a semi electronic turn using some organic sounds. I can see this is heavily inspired by videogame music of the Super Nintendo era.

12. AmosMoses - Black Sunset:
MaliceX wrote:The idea depicted from this song implies this is supposed to represent evil of some kind of demeanor. Repeated lines of melody are arranged throughout the song in different order and has the premise of retrograde melody similar to that of C64 music...though another thought makes me want to forget certain details. Melodically it is distressing in tone.

13. Paper_Luigi - Beneroya Harbor:
MaliceX wrote:One would say this harbor somehow seems a bit too comical for it to be 'just' a harbor. That accordion just gives that extra detail playing alongside the marimbas and accompaniment. I like how the repetition of the progression sticks to the point of the song, this works well for background music.

14. latios_of_altomare - Life by the Mountain Stream:
MaliceX wrote:Nicely done for a final taste of flavour, this song shows the general descriptive of adventure progressing into the unknown only to find there is a whole new place to be. A happy happy music tune that is composed of not one, but three different segments that intertwine together. Each of those segments represents possibly typical town scenery and more. The sounds are just right and well, it just sounds like a good way to express 'a day in adventure' in less than 4 minutes.

So there you have it guys. Very nice work. :) All in all!

Sorry guys but my website is well, gone. I can't afford to renew it, so well, it's just gone. Sorry for the inconvenience.

ButzaW has told me that he had backed up the album, which is a good thing. So he should be able to host them elsewhere.

I'll try to get some comments on all the songs too.

Edit: Oh, and ButzaW, it looks like they got they killed the account way quicker than 1 week. Sorry if that happened too fast. I hope you got a back up of the album.
Whatever it is, I don't care...

Hehe, no worries, I have everything backed up.
It looks like Zenkusa will generously help us out by donating storage space for this, so everything should be sorted out soon enough.

A quick note: My connection's upload speed is around 10kbps, and once I get access to a place to upload to, it should take me a while to upload all 113MB of files. Sorry...

Thanks for the storage space, while it lasted, Kris Troutman! :)
And thanks Zenkusa, if we'll indeed use your host space. :)

EDIT: New host: http://www.swordbolt.com/ButzaW/
Last files are being uploaded, most files are currently already working. Thanks Zenkusa!

My comments are basically the same as MaliceX's for most of the songs, but there are a few that really stood out to me that I'd like to say stuff about (no offense to anyone whose song I don't mention here - I liked all of them! :) )

CBlockDis (Zack Parrish) - Wars for Dreams

The beginning of this song told me right away that this would be something with power. I like the dramatic build overtime that all leads up to the epic climax segment and finally the quiet end section (the end part reminds me very much of the works of David Lanz, one of my favorite artists, btw). Definitely a favorite of mine.

Sir Camehan - The Fight

Excellent use of NES-esque squares/triangles/whatever else - a great retro piece with a lot of modern influence (as MaliceX said). One of my favorites on here - this is the kind of stuff I really enjoy. :) Reminds me a lot of the soundtrack of Journey to Silius for NES, one of the most advanced (is that the right word?) and cool-sounding NES soundtracks of all time.

Drumnbach - Singapore

The first thing this made me think of (after about 30 seconds) was Mario is Missing for SNES. Don't ask why, it just ... did. :P That's not a bad thing, though (I know what most people think of that game ... I never did figure out how to play it myself :P But the music has stuck with me all this time) - I rather enjoy the different styles that were used in that game's music, and this felt somehow similar to that.

AmosMoses - Black Sunset

As soon as that banjo came in, I thought "Hey, I have that same sample!" :P (Really, I think I do ...) I'm liking that part from about 1:30 to 2:05, and then the part immediately after from 2:05 to ... well, the end actually. The first 1:30 wasn;t my favorite (the repeating banjo felt a little stale, I think might be why), but I very much like the rest of it. :)

Latios_of_Altomare (Ben Paric) - Life by the Mountain Stream

This had me thinking of Donkey Kong 64's Fungi Forest from about 0:10 to 1:00, then Fungi Forest at night from 1:00 to around 1:30. I think this might have even worked a little better as background music for that level than the themes they used ... (Another thing it made me think of was that I think I have that same flute sound in my collection. :P) After 1:30, it stopped reminding me of that game and went off on its own little path. Not terribly fond of the part after 2:22 or so, but that's just because that part's not really the style of music I tend to listen to. Picked up the Fungi Forest-ish stuff somewhere in the vicinity of 3:00 - I could see some major cutscene for that level taking place while this music played. Liked the closing too. :)

All the songs were excellent, but these were the ones that stood out the most to me of all of them. Wonderful work by everyone! :)

01 - Spudge - excellent, really nice! you feign modesty too often! i ADORE the stuff after about a minute... really excellent, great piano sequencing. i can tell you worked hard on this whole thing... all moves smooth as silk and is pretty much faultless. i will never let you humble yourself in a music thread of mine ever again!

02 - CBlockDis - haha, damn, it's been ages since i heard anything from you. pretty much what i'd expect too, lol. filmmusicgo! very very believable though for sure. i'm envious of the sound quality.

03 - Sir Camehan - daaaamn electro. totally getting the tracked music vibe from this. what tracker did you use? it sounds pretty high-end for a module format. i guess you did extra production and stuff on it after export or something like that? it's great, really love it. man i know i'm going to be keeping this on repeat for days now.

04 - Jack Chandler - yay, it's always good hearing new stuff from you. great that you're still around, even if not as potently. the piano sequencing is still sounding as tight as ever too. nice quality samples for the beats and everything too. love the syncopation stuff you were doing after the 2 minute mark. would have taken any amount more of that!

05 - Jormungand - you are a bassfish and are having too much fun with colossus! sounds sweet. totally creative as usual. and very atmospheric. i can totally picture this in a game scenario, just as a BGM really. it doesn't grab your attention too much, not overly dynamic. it'd work well for that i reckon. was that the intention? also LOL at throwing tonnes of instruments from different traditions together. the accordian sounds SO ace. i'm jealous. not to mention the shamisens/koto.

06 - Kris Troutman - totally you of course. sinister and the like. the sounds work really well for what they are. considering it's mostly midi you do pull some believable arrangements out of the bag with what you have. love the arpeggios after the 1 minute mark, aswell as the synth leads (pitchbends lol).

07 - ButzaW - i heard this ages ago, gawdamn. first one i heard from this project. i can spot the tickyclav a mile off. love the roland-style samples of course. also the fast 16th note rushes. this sounds really bright and well produced/mastered. i like the title too =P.

08 - drumnbach - pah you old hack! legendary. i love hearing this re-done. it definitely sounds better now. but you kept the mysteron! good on! the whole counterpoint thing happening again with your melodies. shame it isn't a bit longer =( oh well, probably better not to re-write history too much.

09 - Miszou - someone likes their techbreaks! if i didn't know better i would have thought this was something by zircon. resultedly the sound production is pretty damn ace. really nice presets and such. i always like how those sound.

10 - MaliceX - weyyy. love the sound production on this. ace chords too. reminds me of some motoaki takenouchi stuff somewhere around the 1 minute mark, with the whole pan flute dealy. i'd definitely recognise it as yours anyway.

11 - Magister ZZ - another great one from you. i reckon you've improved again. this has so much soul... i love the harmonies and shifts. i love how original it sounds too. also the rhythmic changes are fun. gets all minimal towards the end too. cool!

12 - AmosMoses - huh funny i started playing this with the tempo/pitch down. had to start it again and listen properly. i'm lol-ing at the twelve bar progression at the start. 12 bar koto! some neat rhythms around 1:30. fun whistle use too.

13 - Paper_Luigi - hahahahah. hoooly jesus. you are the bassfish child of grant kirkhope and david wise. ace though! wouldn't have been disappointed if i heard this in an actual banjo game. totally appropriate and great fun.

14 - Ben Paric - here's a name i've not heard before. great composing. sounds like you're totally getting the traditionalisms down. in some places, this reminds me a bit of the entries we had for CdlR5 all that time ago.

there are so many talented musicians around these forums.

Tracker used was MilkyTracker (a FastTracker 2 clone, which spits out XM/MOD files). I did do some extra stuff to it, by using XMPlay to render it to MP3, and enabling "surround" mode and extra reverb (for the extra stuff you mentioned).

it's great, really love it. man i know i'm going to be keeping this on repeat for days now.

Glad you like it :)
