well said, but as I stated earlier, music theory is mainly for music notation, focusing on the proper knowledge of chord progressions, and intervals in respect to how it looks on a staff. I had particular trouble during my semester of music theory(don't worry I plan on taking the full music theory course, but going to Napa Valley College, whereas I took the first semester at Santa Rosa Junior College, so I will need to realise that there will be different approaches to the subject)

All in all, music theory is a fine subject to study, and so is ear training. Both kind of go hand and hand.

Well, the notation of music theory helps make it more easily understood, but the real purpose of music theory is the explain the mechanics of how notes, chords, scales, etc. work the way they do. It isn't exactly necessary for those who have the genuine inner instinct to hit the right notes on the right scales/chords regardless of what the actual content is (I've known enough people who can do this near-perfectly without the need of any explanation).

Regardless it's still a nice thing to know. And yeah, both ear-training and music theory are mutually supportive. Music theory teaches the need for ear-training. Ear-training is well and good but serves less a use without the mental understanding of what you're hearing to back it up.

Thank you for uploading this tutorial, you seem very knowledgeable when it comes to music. I do, though, have a favor to ask of you. All the pics after 2.2 won't load, whether I'm on my laptop or a library computer, and it's having an adverse effect on my education. Would you please be so kind as to re-upload them?
I will sequence requests for $.
