Original Compositions by B-Kpianist

Postby B-Kpianist » Wed Sep 24, 2008 7:59 pm

I tried to make a topic a while ago, but no one ever responded. I think people didn't like the downloading method, so they didn't listen. :-/

Anyways, I've put all of my songs into youtube videos for easy listening. I'm hoping I can get some of your opinions on it. A lot of these songs are Banjo-Kazooie esque. I'll post them by when i wrote them (going form oldest to newest).

Youtube Videos
Breezy Beach
Witchy Isles*
Honeybee Mountain*+
Icyrock Cavern+
Click Clock Clouds (Now Named Ballistic Bedroom)+
PropellerSwish Factory
Ghostly Galleon*
Viney Village
Nutty Farm*

The *'s are the ones that are my favorite, and the ones with th +'s are the ones I've redone. I have a lot of new song too, so if someone knows a place i could host MP3's that be great so i can show you them. Anyways, i'm looking foward to hearing you're opinions. Please keep in mind some of them sound extremely banjo-esque, and those are my first compositions, thanks :)

Download Files
Clashblade Castle (Recently Dubbed Medieval Castle).Mp3
Clashblade Castle, Greenwood Gardens (Variation 1).mid
Fester Factory.mid

That's all i'll post from the fan game, i dont wanna give away too much ;)

Well, I only had time to listen to Breezy Beach because I have to go to get ready for work. But I plan to listen to the rest and post more criticisim. If no one else wants to criticize well, I guess I'll just have to double post. haha

Ok, I know you say your other songs are further from the original, I just didn't get a chance to listen to them yet. I must say you are almost perfect at emulating Kirkhope's style. A few more switches with the melody from right to left and you should have it down perfect in this song. I like how the song switches moods as if you were actually playing the Treasure Trove Cove level. It almost sounded as if the mood switch styles were also emulated from the styles used in this level. With that music you could even make a knock-off BK game. Anyway I did enjoy it and plan to listen to more. So you'll hear from me again.

Thanks for your critique! You listened to my very first song i wrote (which is okay), so it's not suprising it's so similar to TTC. I have actually redone a lot of these for the banjo-fan game me and a crew of people over at the RareWitchProject are working on, so you'll definitely end up hearing these songs outside of here and youtube ;)

(It seems like a lot of people ignore this topic and i really want some critique :()

Anyways, perhaps I'll post some of my newer songs, they're more original. The only problem is that there general midi, so they're not the best of quality (compared to the ones shown here) :-/

ok ok.. all i have to say is don't stop. you obviously love what your doing and i do too <3 and please post that newer GM you made, we here at vgmusic love GM so don't be afraid.

Witchy Isles - I am just amazed with this though. And now that you mention the fan game it must be so intricate because i am hearing all the variations you call 'entrances' (to the level im guessing). Also the underwater part lol, banjo would have drowned before he got to hear all of that song.

Honeybee Mountain - It's great, it has a jazzy mumbos mountain feel, but at times it seems it might have condescending tracks. but thats not bad at all i still love the piece in entirety. imo, the original mumbos mountain is kinda like that too but it's more subtle . Also, why did you choose to have the interiors sound that way? i'm just curious is all.

again i will post more later, i am officially your fan.

Yay! Thanks for the review. I'll post a few of the new midi's i've done shortly ;) I cant post too many, cuz a lot of them are for the game, and i don't wanna give away too much. Well i'll break it down:

Witchy Isles: You will hear the variations of the song in the game, but it's not the hub world, just the entrance tune (and it's heard in a few other places as well). We were initially going to make this the hub, but we came up with a more creative hub world, and i'm currently writing a tune for it.
Honeybee Mountain: I did some maintenance on this song not to long ago, so you'll hear a newer one shortly- funny how i came up with this actually. I had a dream about a banjo (lol! nerd dream :P) and everything was weird and different, and i walked into mumbo's mountain (which looked waaaay different- it looked kinda like this, which is how it'll look in the fan game :P), and this was the tune was playing. When I woke up, i remembered the tune and wrote it down for piano as quick as possible so I wouldn't forget.

I'm glad you like them! I plan to apply for a job at Rare once I'm ready to and get better at writing.

PS. I don't understand why more people don't post their opinons, there's been 77 views (yes i watch these things lol) and only 4 posts :-/

Icyrock Cavern - I've never been one for slow tunes so after listening to this for about 1 minute i figured i wouldn't even like it. then i walked outside to do a quick chore and the song was allready stuck in my head. haha just goes to show you what i know about myself. it was crystal caves melded with a hint of fp. i am very interested in hearing other varations of this song for your game aswell. although this song does lack some originality i still enjoyed it.

Ballistic Bedroom - hmm, im not sure how i feel about this one yet, i might have to listen to it a few times over. to be honest, i didnt really favor the original cloud cuckcooland. as it had too many instruments and its a bit overwhelming. not that the tune isnt great though. i love the intro of yours actually, and yes the song did grow on me after the first time. i particulary favor the interior. though its very simple it is a nice display of how good the song actually is.

lol i was just reading about your dream. your very creative and you must have an insane memory to be able to remember this after waking.

ill be back to listen to the rest soon

once again <3

Glad 2 hear from you again :) Well, let me respond to ur comments:

I.C: I'm considering to cut this one out of the game for a more fresh idea (and more original piece). This was the 2nd piece i wrote. Nice to hear my music can be addicting even if it's not so original :p
B.B: This one was originally supposed to be a CCL esque song, but i've gone back and re-written it for the game. The level is an oversized kids bedroom (fresh idea eh?), and so i re-wrote it to sound a little more... carnival sounding (kinda-sorta). I added a Timpani and snare to start, but i'll leave the rest for the game.

And yeah, i can say myself that i have a pretty good memory! Hehe- i remember things from when i was 2! But it was one of those dreams that really stick with you after waking up and you don't forget it. Looking forward to hearing the rest of your critique.

Srsly though, why is no one else saying anything? :(

don't worry about those other people mate.. ill keep commenting no matter!

PropellerSwish Factory - loved it, absolute ace here. actually i was suprised to read the one comment of the fellow that was upset calling it a rip-off. i havent heard much from BT but of course i did my research before commenting this. now grunty industries is very similar to your version im not going to lie.. but yours is better imo. loved it from beginning to end. mabye its the instruments you chose for the accompaniment mabye its the way you arranged it. mabye it was both but i really enjoyed that thanks for it.

Ghostly Galleon - heh those background noises are distracting but im assuming are in the song bc they are a part of the atmosphere of the game. also, the strings in the beginning annoyed me a bit but i can tell why they are there. bc this song resembles gloomy galleon. the atmospheric noises and the strings i can notice in both yours and gloomy galleon along with a bit of the melody. i also love the fact you try to be honest in your song name and video information about what the song might resemble.

youll hear from me again buddy. keep up that good work

Oh yeah, I've been meaning to get to these, but I've been busy with other stuff, like Megamania and what not. I'll look at these when I get home.

PropellerSwishFactory: You liked mine better? Really?! Wow- that's saying something. I actually think that one is too similar- thanks though :)
Ghostly Galleon- I thought it resembled frantic factory more- cuz of the melody, that's why i'm gonna re-write the melody. I'm planning to use witchy isles as the melody (not the whole thing, only the dominant part), because i dropped it and it sounds more original. And Gloomy galleon? Hmmm. I suppose it resembles that, but only in the atmosphere, not in the melody. Well w/e :)

Thanks for your comment- looking forward to hearing more :)

Hey dude!

I think my favs are Icyrock Cavern, PropellerSwish and Viney Village. They're all just good anyways. I simply love how you can just copy Kirkhope's style of composing like that. I'm better at doing Dave Wise impersonations :P

But honestly, they're great! Every single one of them!

Well- they wouldn't sound so good w/o your help! :) Thanks for commenting smouvy. I wish i could do some Dave Wise styles- DKR mostly.

And Genius _41: Thanks :) Ummm... I'll give you a little preview of this song I'm working on right now. It's like a firey tribal type setting (Smouvy i don't think you've heard this one yet). I'll post it for download in a few.

[EDIT] Here it is: http://www.savefile.com/files/1901282

It's only 49 sec's right now, but i'll post it when it's complete. The beginning sounds empty, but thats because i haven't completely finished that part either. It's just the beat. I'm using the song from Banjo-Tooie (the song that plays in B-T while Mumbo does the dance to rise the Golden Goliath and others. Found at this url: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ap_PR-xa8VA) for the intro.
