[Corrections] What a Mega-Mess!

Postby Joseph Collins » Thu Apr 02, 2009 3:15 pm

Well, at least it WASN'T until I started being anal about things... Just some stuff needs to be shuffled around and/or altered a little, is all. It'll take a little while to do, I'd imagine, but it really should be done eventually.

Gameboy - Mega Man Stuff
- This, that, and the other thing are all by a guy named "Dave Couzelis", according to the in-MIDI information.

Super Nintendo - Mega Man X Stuff
- This one is by Velocity, though it's pretty clear he just changed some samples of Jarel Jones' original MIDI. Sounds neats, but still...plagurism is plagurism. (IS it plagurism? o_o)
- This one is possibly by TeckBOT, possibly not.
- Geoffrey Verheij (or "Zero G", as the uploader name states) madethis awesome arrangement.
- Zero_X0 did this one, but then either uploaded it again or updated it. He also didthis one and this one
- Someone named "eVILPeeR" did this one.
- SinclairC did this killer Spark Mandrill tune.
- Paul Kurcz did this Spark Mandrill no-drums arrangement.
- "aerofighter" did this tune.
- This "Cain's Lab" tune is currently in Mega Man X2. It belongs in Mega Man X3.

Super Nintendo - Ninja Gaiden Trilogy
- One of my favorite artists, Tsu Ryu, got a little carried away with the Ninja Gaiden Trilogy stuff. This file is labelled under "Ninja Gaiden Tomoe (Japan)" and this file is labelled under "Ninja Ryukenden (Japan)". Both should be under "Ninja Gaiden Trilogy" as these tracks aren't unique to the Japanese release of the game (to the best of my knowledge). Also, the first one should be preceeded by "Ninja Gaiden 3" and the last one by "Ninja Gaiden 1".
- Continuing on this vein...:
Act 2-1 - "Overdrive" (Arranged), Act 5-1 - "Unlimited Moment" (Arranged), Event Theme 01, Robert The Army, and Stage 1-1 should all be preceeded by a "Ninja Gaiden 2" and Story Themes 1-2 - "Prologue" should be preceeded by a "Ninja Gaiden 1".

If you'd like more information about any of these files, don't hesitate to ask. I'll admit I just didn't feel like throwing in the file titles this time around for most of them. XD Take care, and sorry to throw so much work at you folks!

Augh, my head hurts. I like how this has been sat here for days and no-one else has said a word. 'kay... I'll look into this stuff.

EDIT.

- This, that, and the other thing are all by a guy named "Dave Couzelis", according to the in-MIDI information.

Not sure what you want me to do with these -- that and the fact that they're ancient and don't work with the scripts. It'd be cool if one of the other staff members made a script to run through all the text files on the site and update format them in the way they are now. It would make this job a lot easier (even though it isn't my job~)

- This one is by Velocity, though it's pretty clear he just changed some samples of Jarel Jones' original MIDI. Sounds neats, but still...plagurism is plagurism. (IS it plagurism? o_o)

I'll take your word for it -- deleted. Sounded like ass to me anyway :P

- This one is possibly by TeckBOT, possibly not.

That's kind of vague, but for what it's worth I deleted this anyway - if you're going to sequence really short jingles, you'd have the sense to get them accurate (or so you'd think.)

- Geoffrey Verheij (or "Zero G", as the uploader name states) madethis awesome arrangement.

Goodness me I hope you're kidding. Well, I've added his alias to the sequencer field. Was tempted to just delete it.

- Zero_X0 did this one, but then either uploaded it again or updated it. He also didthis one and this one

These are all bad. None of them work with the update script either. I've deleted them.

- Someone named "eVILPeeR" did this one.

Updated.

- SinclairC did this killer Spark Mandrill tune.

Mmm, but curiously he didn't upload it. I would say plagiarism but I can't see a sequence by SinclairC in the archive. Added his name to the sequencer field anyway.

- Paul Kurcz did this Spark Mandrill no-drums arrangement.

How original! I wouldn't be surprised if this is plagiarised. Arbitrarily removing drums seems sort of pointless so it's going I'm afraid...

- "aerofighter" did this tune.

Another one that doesn't work with our scripts and I literally can't be bothered to go into FTP to sort it out.

- This "Cain's Lab" tune is currently in Mega Man X2. It belongs in Mega Man X3.

Where it belongs is in the bin.

I was able to update the first one, but conveniently, not the second....

Again, I was able to update some, but not others.

O_o Blitz? Did you have a rough week, mate? You seemed particularly harsh towards the files I pointed out. Maybe it's because I use a heafty-sized SoundFont, but a lot of those I pointed out sounded pretty good to me... Ah well. You're the boss, after all. XD Thank you for what help you could/would provide.

The only things I'm having a bad time with are scripts that don't work with all the files in the archive (makes this job a lot more time-consuming), and having to fix archive errors - when it isn't my job. Those files were pretty crappy though - we've got much better Mega Man X sequences these days, for instance.

Thanks for spotting these problems.

Okay! I had a little flash of inspiration this morning, and thanks to Secret Agent Man's great help, it's now possible to edit information on older files via a new site script - no more saving and editing locally for me! What this means is it's now a lot quicker and pain-free to edit information on files in the archive older than 2002. As a result, I've fixed all this stuff that I didn't get around to before:

That leaves the sequencer accreditation for aerofighter and Dave Couzelis. I'll see about getting around to those soon-ish, though it involves creating new 'Sequenced by' fields rather than just editing what's in them, since those files don't currently have sequenced by fields. Shouldn't be a problem though, knock-on-wood.

It's a secret to everyone: No one who works here makes any money.

If we did, do you really think we'd have let the site fall into disrepair like this?
