Do you mean every strings? from Violin to Synth Strings 2? Is it the same for piano? Acoustic Piano to Honky Tonk?
Please show the numbers identification of all instruments we can't use, that would be useful.

Anyhow, thanks a lot for theses 3 last themes, I already got big ideas going on. Good luck everyone!

I'm pretty sure he simply means the ones that are very similar and have the same basic sound or something very close in which case this means you can't use the following:

Square (81)
Saw (82)
Strings (Patches 49-52)
Piano (patches 1-6)
Choir Ahhs (53)
Choir (92)
Voice (86)
Synth Voice (55)

I'm pretty sure he is simply just applying a further restriction based on what people used most commonly. So just stay away from anything that is above and it should be fine from what I can tell.

Actually, I thought he meant the following:

Piano Group ... patches 1-6 (though I'm not entirely sure about 5 and 6 since they're electronic and discluding harpsichord despite being a piano-related instrument)
Strings Groups ... patches 45-47 (tremelo, pizzicato, and orchestral) and patches 49-52 (ensemble and synth ensemble)
Choir Group ... patches 53-55 (at least; otherwise, see below)
Square Wave ... patches 81
Saw Wave ... patches 82

I had mentally discluded all possibilities for each category since then you could potentially include at least half the possible instrument patches that are available to begin with.

Everything that Kris and X mentioned except the harp and pizzicato action is prohibited.

So:

Strings (45, 49-52)
Square Wave (81)
Piano (1-6)
Saw Wave (82)
Voice (53-55, 86, 92)

Okay, I got new headphones, so I'm definitely gonna try to make something for this. I promise.

Just finished mine.
These restrictions were evil!
EVIL!!!
(I even resorted to all caps and multiple exclamation points.)

Having no strings patch is like keeping an addict away from his addiction.
The more you try to avoid it, the more you want it.

Choir ahhs = OK, so I use this one a lot, mainly because I'm evil. But to be honest, I don't need it as much as I use it. So I can make do without it.

Square/Saw = I use these somewhat a lot, but still, I can live without these.

Strings = Box of Goldfish type of addiction (trust me, they are beyond addictive and you will kill people if you don't get your fix). Probably the hardest one for me
to ditch, but yet again, I got my ways.

Piano= well actually I don't know why it's used so much. I almost never use it, so no loss here.

It was fun making a song with restrictions. I kinda almost wish they were a bit harsher, but I guess this was harsh enough. If I lost my BRASS now... I would probably go catatonic.

Entry submitted...

I started... just an hour before the deadline. No joke. I don't know what was wrong with me this week... couldn't get anything started. But the important thing is, I managed to finish.

Well, got mine in too. It was irritating though because I started on one idea (in-head compo, whee!), but some of life's crazy prevented me from getting everything ironed out... meaning idea #2 was the one that went in instead. *sighs* ...

Shouldn't that be a Pringles addiction? (Cuz once ya pop, ya just can't stop!) ;o

But yeah, some of the restrictions are rather nasty until and if you can find ways around 'em. Strings definitely seems like the harshest of the bunch.
