Alright! I'm submitting samples to this one! ^_^

I just sent my e-mail for my submission of my three samples... which means if it's confirmed, I just took the second to last slot.
My game music works:
Scribble Star by Winzenheimer and the Stencyl Team
Nine Pixel Game by KungFuFurby (my own creation! ^_^)
Arkanaut by Manuel/Satelite Play
Blackheist by Manuel/Satelite Play

And some others that haven't been released yet.

For the record, as long as we'd have all of December to work on entries, I'm not complaining.

Let's get those last 3 samples in, you Last Sample Submitter person! (Or Mr. Chin, Hyper X and I could just submit one more each...)

I definitely don't mind waiting. I don't want to screw over the MMC. Long as the samples aren't released until originally set to be released, we should be good.

I sent you 3 samples :)

I'd like to sumbit a song, but it'll be hard to test as my PC doesn't support soundfonts so I'll have to borrow family's PC. It'll be a great challenge, especially if the samples are weird. Much better than "theme" based competitions for me.

IMO, this makes it that much more fun, because I'm sure like myself, others like a real challenge. Using whatever methods at our disposal, to make viable music with such hard to use samples. The more work there is to do, the better the results are, as it forces you to not only focus on the song, but the practicality of the sounds as well.

I look forward to this contest and think it will be a good one.

ah, dang. ok, maybe i can accept 2 from each of you and just call it quits at 40. as it turns out, Bregalad, your sounds are pretty risque. there's one that's a definite no-no for breaking the "no chipped sounds" guideline, so i've had to reject that one anyway, though the other ones are borderline acceptable. i think in future it might be better if i specified what constituted a chip sound in milliseconds/samplelength. if it has no discernable character without looping, then it's no good, as a loose definition.

kroc, yours are fine, but i guess it's only fair that since you submitted bregalad you should be docked a sample. actually it'd only fair if everyone submitted two to begin with. i've made a pigs arse of the whole thing so i'm going to limit myself to 2 samples as well.

also Kris, your PM didn't get through to me. I'm not sure what happened. what was it?

If this is because a lack of drums, that would be very challenging... but I've made songs with no drums before.

Well I throught the "no chip sounds" meant you couldn't submit square waves or other very simple waves in the like. Maybe I just didn't understand what you meant by this ? (this is a shame because I like such sounds but oh well)

Anyway I just submitted 3 almost random samples (I just made sure i liked their sound) so it's not like I'd be offended or anything if they were to be rejected. Also maybe it's because they were supposed to be listened to a slower rate ?

that's precisely what it was though, a very simple waveform. without looping, it was little more than a click. even slowed down 100% it was still little more than a click, hard to discern the pitch even. it's not quite as simple as one cycle of a sine wave, but nonetheless constitutes a shortloop sample in my book.

writing chip music myself i like simple leads as well, but there's a time and a place. short loops are highly discouraged in SPC because it circumvents any effort you would otherwise have to put in to get usable sounds. it's cheap basically :b you could write a full song just with that sound, and it'd be a chiptune, like what mudlord submitted in SPC III. it isn't in the spirit of the contest. anyway, you haven't participated in SPC before, you were not even registered here when the last one was happening, so it's no problem.

Oh I get the thing. I picked those form a small/portable library and yeah they should be looped and played much slower to sound like something. I also did that so mailing it wouldn't be too much a problem (.wav files gets large quite easily) but I now understand what was wrong.

Anyways hopefully I'll participate and see what it is like.

is there any reason why i shouldn't just post the samples now?
(deadline wouldn't be affected.)

edit: yeah, gonna post them now. for people who don't want to start yet they don't have to.
