Post your Wii Numbers / Friends codes here

Postby Aethis » Sun Nov 19, 2006 10:46 pm

Well, we have a stuck topic for the DS friend codes..... why not one for the Wii? Guess I'll start.

Information:
Both sides must have each other registered to allow communication between each other. So if Kurtis put my number down on his Wii, but I didn't put his on mine, we wouldn't be able to do anything.

Also, to find your Wii number. From the Wii-Channel selection screen, on the bottom right will be the messages button. Click this, and it will take you to the message screen. In there, you will find on the bottom left a few icons. Click the one that allows you to write a new message. It will pop up with a few options. In there, click the address book on the right. The first page is your Wii number.

Animal Crossing: City Folk
NOTE: Please include your friend code, in-game name and town name (and indicate clearly which is which).

I think it's the same as the DS friend codes, but you get one code that works for all your games plus all the system's built-in online apps.

Like an instant messenger in that you add a friend (using the unique code given) - once they've added you back, on compatible DS games you will be notified when they are online. You are then able to play games with them, or send private messages and whatnot.

Uhm, no. That's actually one of the drawbacks in the friendcode system as implemented on the DS. You have to notify eachother in a different way to play against eachother online, and there's different friendcodes for each game. Although with Animal Crossing you have the ability to open your gate so people on your friendlist can walk in at any time provided you don't close the gate or turn off the game.

On the Wii, the Friendcode system is a bit easier in that there's only one code for the entire system. So far, the online functionality is limited to messaging eachother via e-mail and sharing Miis though.

Future online titles can include the option to notify a friend that you're playing or schedule appointments for games though.

Having a friend also means that lovely Mii Parade is no longer empty, provided you set your Miis on Mingle mode.

P.S. My Wii code is in my sig, but you probably already saw that.

About the in-game names: when you register a friend code, you have to attach a name to it. Is that just for your reference, or does it have to match the in-game name of the person you're registering? Just like with the Wii codes, Nintendo doesn't really make that part clear... or maybe I just haven't looked in the right place on Nintendo's knowledge base.

I've noticed that once you both have entered in your codes, the name in your list will change to match whatever they entered.

I had to ask people in one of the IRC channel's I'm in who "BREAD" was.

So, the name you entered only applies while they haven't added you back.

Animal Crossing: City Folk

Also, I apparently need to smack Aethis for not actually announcing when he gets new games but just adding himself to the list. Makes me think I should just take ownership of all the stickied topics for game systems.
