Testing Out Commenting Feature for New Files

Postby Yaginuma » Sun Nov 04, 2012 8:21 pm

We're testing out the Disqus commenting system on our new-files directory. Click the comment link in the far right column to give us feedback on each song. Your feedback can either let us know if a song is correct/incorrect, good/bad. If this works well, we'll try rolling out commenting to entire existing archive.

Nice idea, Mike!

I think it's a feature that's well overdue. Sometimes you just want to say something about what you just heard.

Yeah, this is a very interesting feature - definitely useful for the new-files directory at least.

In my opinion, for this case, this could also be useful if any of us detects anything suspicious about submissions in that directory before the update staff transfers it to the archive itself.

Heh, about time something like this was put on VGMusic.com. Might even help get New Files cleared out properly at long last.

This is a great feature, but will the guy who made the MIDIs somehow be warned that someone left comments for him ? Because else, it's not as useful as if could have be.

Also this could be used in some way to approve or reject MIDIs. Not that I like such an arbitrary system, but apparently the moderators here haven't worked really hard on this since 2008 so....

PS : Oh apparently they want you to give your e-mail adress, with the "correct" format with the @ symbol. Last time I left it on this on this site I got massive flux of spam on my email, something like 20 per day, so I'm not doing this again, sorry but no comments from me...

Great, now we can get feedback on our midis!
But more importantly, the admins are actually DOING SOMETHING! Let's hope that they start updating the archive again, or this feature will be useless.

@Bregalad: *could have been.
Just kidding  It's nice to see bad grammar. Reminds me that I'm not the only foreign dude on this site (or in this site?) :D

Pff, ever since I've first learned of this I've been constantly checking my 66 MIDIs currently stuck in New Files to see if any comments where added. =S

And for that matter, not many comments appear to have sprung up yet at all, but maybe I'm just being impatient here.

Ugh! I'm having a little problem! Whenever you upload a new file to VGMusic, and you look at what you said about this MIDI, it rubs a 404 error in your face! :x

Sounds like the uploading system wasn't adapted to the new commenting system just yet.

I'm guessing the same thing. Did you also PM Yaginuma or Powerlord about the situation by any chance?

Yeah, I notice the first few comment links on the new files page return 404 errors.

For now, you can still access the plain text file manually. Right click on the link to the MIDI file and choose Copy Link Address. Right click in the address box and choose Paste. Replace .mid with .txt and press Enter.

Awesome. Could be a great way to get feedback on submissions. I didn't know anyone still worked on this site, to be honest.
Course clear! You got a card.

I guess I'll have to put it this way for now, until the upload system supports the coments and reactions system... :|
